Today is a day that we honor a man who stood up for what was right, and because of it, our country is a far better place. Today we celebrate Martin Luther King Jr. Our country was founded on the principle that all people were created equal. Yet at times this principle has been ignored. Dr. King reminded us of this principle through peaceful protests over how blacks did not have the freedom that others did in our country. He was able to change society, as he spoke of the dream of equality for all. This dream touched the heart of America.
We are in a time in America's history where we need to remember and stand on the principles of Dr King's dream. Freedom is a treasure we should all share in America. We must make sure it is there for all our children and for generations to come. We must keep constitutional liberties alive for each and every person in this country - no matter their age, skin color, circumstances, political party affliction, or state. Thank you Dr King for showing us how to let freedom ring!
"Let freedom ring. And when this happens, and when we allow freedom to ring - when we let it ring from every village and every hamlet, from every state and every city, we will be able to speed up that day when all of God's children - black men and white men, Jews and Gentiles, Protestants and Catholics - will be able to join hands and sing in the words of the old Negro spiritual: "Free at last! Free at last! Thank God Almighty, we are free at last!" - From Dr King's I Have a Dream speech.
Freedom takes work, courage and conviction to keep it alive. Join me as I fight to keep the rights of Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness for all people.
